So, I've been having an issue recently. I have been using avira for at least 4 years. Never had any problems with internet speed. Suddenly about a week ago I noticed that my speed was a fourth of the speed. Does anyone know how to solve this?

I am sure of this problem because when I uninstalled avira the download speed went back to normal.

I am only writing this because avira has REALLY, REALLY bad customer support if you're not paying.

  Hey,

  What do you see when you download something and look at the Task Manager with Avira Free Installed? Do you see any strange Avira-related processes? Does it go away when the download is finished?

  Thank you for your response.
  I have noticed an unusually high cpu usage from avira's real time protection while downloading. If I'm not downloading there is no cpu usage at all. I have uninstalled avira at the moment but will install it once I have a solution. The download speeds are back to normal without avira!

  So we both had the same problem. 

  I "fixed" it by doing this:

  Go to Windows Control Panel -> Uninstall a program -> Avira Antivirus and then choose 'Change'. Deselect Web Protection, then click next and let it do its thing. 

  Now the downloads are back to normal for me too.

  Huh, I thought it only affected browsing the web, not downloads.
