Still cannot completely remove Avira from Windows 10---prevents refreshing Windows 10
In trying to reinstall Windows 10 (reinstall but retaining files/programs), a message says the procedure cannot continue until Avira is removed, as "it is incompatible with Windows 10". I have done all of the uninstall procedures I know of, including downloading your removal program, running it in Safe Mode etc. The output of the program when I re-run it to check its effectiveness shows that the registry entries are no longer present. However, Windows 10 still produces the statement that Avira needs to be removed. There must be some residual traces of Avira somewhere that keeps preventing the reinstall. I have used the latest Windows Media program and your current removal program (download). Any additional ideas, please? .

Thanks, Felix, but as I said in my original post, I have already done all that you suggest, including using the uninstall utility, latest version available from your site. This is a real problem because until it is solved, we cannot refresh an installation of Windows 10. It is a significant roadblock to the normal funcitoning of Windows caused by your software.
The removal program must be overlooking a critical file or register entry or (????) that windows clearly identifies as Avira software. I too, have searched regedit looking for any variation of reference to Avira and can find nothing, as Tim has. I am quite afraid of reinstalling the Avira program once again and then uninstalling it, hoping it will "somehow" remove everything, because the version originally installed is several years old (and registry entries, files etc.) aren't likely the same now. Please help with this.

Also, incidentally, I followed all of the instructions associated with the links you provided in your response to us and nothing helped e.g, there are no hidden files or folders with Avira files in them, etc.

Update: continuing to try approaches to get rid of Avira such as: 1) tried using a much older version of the Windows 10 update software to see if it would overlook Avira remanants or whatever is causing it to identify Avira as incompatible software; no luck--still says Avira has to be manually removed; 2) tried the downloadable Windows 10 install/uninstall troubleshooting software; no luck---did not identify presence of Avira but asks for a software identification code for presumed, problem software not on the "identified programs" list the troubleshooter generated. Iguess that the it can then "look" some more throughout the install for it. So It would be helpful to obtain a 2015 or so version of Avira Antivirus, the free but upgradable version, and updates between 2015 and 2017, which is when I was using the software. I may yet risk installing those versions and uninstalling again, to see if it wipes out all remnants.

Hy!
If you stop Avira from Task Manager - Services - all avira products, manual stop, then you can uninstall from control panel avira.
Hope it's helpful
