Avira Free Antivirus no longer what it was, it's crippled
I got the "upgrade" to Free security, and I am now looking for an alternative.
This so called upgrade has crippled the users control over the Anti-Virus, every option that there was before.
No longer can one exclude specific files, schedule scans, see the logs, get a complete overview of the software, or run it without other unwanted software, such as the Avira Optimizer, being installed and running along side it.
Basically, Avira has become a shell of it's former self forcing users to abide by what Avira deems acceptable and forcing other unwanted programs to be used in addition.
If at some point the old design comes back where and Anti-Virus is just that, allowing full control and no random junk to be installed, I have no issue taking a second look.

I've been using Avira Free for close to 25 years, the only other free software I've used longer is Comodo Firewall, (free). The only neg. I've had up to this year was, every year you had to re-subscribe . In other words Avira has has been great! But..
Sometime this year they must have changed the option of running a full scan in Safe Mode? I can't for the life of me understand why they would do this. In past years every time I ran Avira in S.M. when I thought I had Malware, it always came through and cleaned-up! That's why I'm here now to see if it's true? Actually, I just installed and Uninstalled BitDefender thirty minutes ago, (the review said it would run a full scan in safe mode). It forced me to uninstall Avira, which I allowed, but then it wouldn't install unless I uninstalled Comodo! Guess what, I uninstalled BitDefender. I hope I find a positive answer here on this 'full virus scan' in safe mode. If Avira has eliminated this option I will unfortunately be looking for a new anti-virus too.
