Hi, Does anyone know how I can turn antivirus off temporarily, while I do a system restore?

  Hello Don,

  You can deactivate the real-time protection, see:

  Right-click on the Avira icon in the taskbar:
  Remove the tick in front of Activate real-time protection.

  Don't forget to re-enable the real-time protection afterwards by ticking the checkbox.
