If Avira Free is actually working

I have downloaded the Avira Free Antivirus program, but how do I know this is actually working? I have to manually open the icon and it pulls up this dark screen that say I do not have the Firewall. Which is okay because I also have a separate firewall. But I run the scan manually every time I get on the computer, but it never says all good, all working or anything. The umbrella is usually closed, which I don't know what that means or how to fix it. I am not really liking this program very much, cause I don't know if I am protected or not.

  Something seems to be wrong with your installation.
  Unfortunately, you have not provided any information about your OS.

  If you have Win 10, current with all updates, then first perform a clean uninstall and then a reinstallation.
  Uninstallation of Avira for Windows – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | Avira
  and after a reboot a new installation Avira Free Security:
  https://www.avira.com/ 
  After that, a clean version should be installed and the Avira icon should be open.
