    Hello Simon,

You are still using WIN 7, which has not been supported by Microsoft for a long time. The technical progress sometimes leads to complications that only a current OS with all updates can be referred to. For your safety, you should use a system that is kept up-to-date by the manufacturer.

It is unfortunate that you can only set the language.
Normally, the settings are to be set via the 4 areas on the left in the bar, to set them again as desired in the new window, see:

If these do not open, which would be unusual, let us know.
There is a lot of information about the settings of your installation in the database and also explanations about the operation.

If anything is still unclear, please let us know, and we will be happy to help.

    Kind regards

Thankyou for the reply, but my name is not Simon , it is Joanna (aka J).

As a developer I still need to develop apps for Win7 users, as well as Win 10 , so I use both. I am referring to my Win 7 laptop in this instance.

It seems that a scan - that I was not aware of - was running  yesterday when CPU was 25%  (at around 17:45 on 2021-04-14  ).

My only scheduled scan is supposed to tun at 21:00 (see shot below),  but ran at 11:47- according to your Avira VirusScans Manager. Would that still be running  6 hours later?

Also, how long do the mandatory scans ( that are scheduled at 12:00 AM, but obviously don't run then as my laptop is shutdown ) usually take?

All the left pane options that you show in your reply above work fine, but clicking on Settings in ANY left pane option still only gives the same screen with language selection. Is this due to it being a free version?

Also, why are there so many (Nine) processes running - constantly (even without the GUI app) - taking up memory - about 200 MB in total  - including an  OptimizerHost and a VPN Service , neither of which I am using? How do I get rid of these two?

    Thanks for your assistance,

     regards,

    J
