    Hello Stephen,

We are sorry that you are having difficulties with the installation of the Avira license.
Here the community is a publicly accessible forum, personal data may and cannot be processed here according to the Data protection GDPR. Unfortunately, questions about your license can only be handled by the support team via your customer account by email in accordance with the GDPR.

We have seen that you have already contacted the support team some time ago, created a ticket and already received answers.
It would make sense to stay with the support team with your questions, also in order not to answer twice. In addition, we have neither access to your customer account nor to your installation. We have no way here to check your scan results or review your installation. These details and evaluations may only be processed via email in accordance with GDPR. Here in the Community is no e-mail access available.

We regret that we can offer less help here from the publicly accessible forum than the support team can offer you with access to your data.

We thank you for your understanding.

    Kind regards

    Thank you for the reply.

I’m posting here because I’m getting nowhere with support. My last question was 5 days ago, which I don’t call “VIP support”, and they just keep pointing me at web sites and not answering direct questions. Plus, they say things like “Avira Antivirus Pro offers additional web protection, email protection for securing unencrypted email traffic, and advanced ransomware protection.” I just don’t think this is true for the Mac version. Answers here will benefit the community.

I’m not asking any account-related questions, just asking for general information. The product only installs a system extension on a Mac - no browser extension (for Safari) and no proxies. As such, I can’t see how it can do anything but scan files, despite the fact that web pages tout all sorts of capabilities (not being specific about which ones are not supported on a Mac). If it turns out I’m correct in my assumptions, I’ll look into asking for a refund and find another product that has more features on Macs.

Support has already told me that the web dashboard has problems syncing licence information. It’s a bug for sure, and I was just expressing my frustration that I can’t see what’s installed on my Macs.

I hope you can clear up my understanding, and make things clearer for the community. Thank you.

EDIT: and there’s also the question of whether the Pro version has anything over the Free version. As far as I can see, it’s EXACTLY the same product on Macs, with no additional features, other than the supposed VIP Support.

    Hello Stephen,

Your contribution surprises us, we don't quite understand it.

Please have a look at the answers of the support team. Answers have already been given there, to which we cannot provide any additional information, including on the Free - Pro version.

Here the community is a publicly accessible forum. All your contract documents are only available to the support team. The community is an user2user forum. In addition, the community is subject to the GDPR. This has strict guidelines, and we will adhere to the rules in accordance with GDPR.
It is regrettable, but questions about the license and the installation - if something is not working properly there - can unfortunately only be answered by the licensee based on his installation and by the support team. Only the support can initiate checks of your installation to determine whether the applications of your license you doubt  are installed and executed correctly.

We would like to ask you to continue to contact the support team with questions about your installation, also to avoid duplicate answers.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards

Oh my goodness, I’m hitting the same brick wall here as I hit with support.

I’m not asking for anything contract or GDPR-related. Why do you keep bringing that up? I’m asking for a simple explanation of what the Pro version protects me from on a Mac. Why can’t someone just answer that? The web page says it protects from ransomware, adware, spyware, hacking, phishing, rootkits, trojans and worms, as well as email viruses. If you drill down and look at the Mac support in particular, it says it just scans files. So I’d just like to know what the real truth is. For example, I can’t see how it can protect from adware and phishing without things like browser extensions, and it can’t protect email without some sort of network proxy, neither of which exist. You’re not answering that simple question, and neither is support (6 days for a response and counting), which makes me think you don’t want to get that out in public. Don’t get me wrong, I sincerely hope that’s not the case, and that you can tell me that the product does indeed do more than simple file scanning on a Mac. But if that is all it does, can you please tell me how I can apply for a refund?

    I appreciate your time.
