    Hello,

Please note that the system requirements for Avira Security for macOS are macOS 10.15 Catalina. Therefore, we cannot offer a solution here.

We, therefore, ask you to update your macOS as soon as possible. An up-to-date OS offers important security updates as well as feature enhancements. Therefore, you should not hesitate to install it.

    Hallo Brenda!

I have the exakt same problem! Exactly the same day it stopped updating! (I am on High Sierra, can't upgrade)

So I bought Antivirus Pro, but nothing happened with the update issue. I have written two times to Avira Support but they just give me an answer with the AI-robot!

They do not care - or they do not know?

    Hi Lukas!

The system req for Avira Antivirus Pro (which I bought) is High Sierra, not Catalina! I bought it because I could not update the free antivirus. And now I can not update the Pro version either. What is wrong?

I am also using Avira Security - the App Store version - it works fine.

I will buy a new Mac soon, but I should really want to be able to update the antivirus Pro. How?

    Hello Lukas,

I am not using Free Security, I'm using Free Antivirus and the system requirements for Antivirus is 10.14 and my system was compatible as this had been working just fine until Aug. 1st. So what changed on Aug. 1st? Did Avira alter the Antivirus software so it no longer supports anything below 10.15? I am aware that Free Security requires 10.15 that's why I've been using Antivirus.

Could you please address the Antivirus software. Thanks.

Well, from time to time we are in need to change the system requirements of our products. Especially with macOS Apple is restricting their operating system with any major update (10.x.x).

The system requirements are located here:

Best free Antivirus for Mac, trusted by millions (avira.com)

Both - free and pro - are basing on the same engine and tech stage. So the only difference between them is additional features that you can unlock with purchasing a pro license.

Also please note that the standalone Avira Antivirus for Mac is discontinued (end-of-life) and don't get any updates anymore.

I just bought Antivirus Pro, because the free version did not update. Pro does not update either.
And WHY do you NOT inform this in a clear matter when I buy the app? On your homepage it stills says system req for Pro is High Sierra! But not a word that it is end of life!!???

Why on earth do you let me buy an app that is useless? Can you explain that for me, please?

Hi Kristofer, thanks for your comments, I appreciate your input. This helped me to know it wasn't just my system. I wanted to let you know that (surprisingly) I just received a notification that my Avira Antivirus just updated successfully (the auto update notification).

My icon is now showing Avira updated to today's date and time. I also tried the manual update and it worked. Very surprising after the last message from Lukas. No idea if this will continue to update, if the software will in fact be supported, but for now, it's working again!

I wanted to let you know in case you haven't discovered this and you still have your software installed. I hope this now works for you because the fact that you purchased this software and got no support is tremendously unprofessional. Good luck!

Hi Brenda! Yes - it worked today, I could not believe my eyes. Thankyou, you made my day!

Maybe the update is just for you and me? (-:

    Or the Final Update?

We have to wait and see....

Kristoffer Nilsson - We've made some changes in the backend and supporting 10.13 (macOS High Sierra) due to the irritation with our system requirement. So you're now able to update your installation again.

Please note that at least with the release of macOS 12 (Monterey) your current used macOS will not be supported.

Well, Kristoffer Nilsson - Sadly, we cannot provide any release date as Apple hasn't announced the release of macOS 12 yet. It's expected this fall and - based on the pasts years - typically in October.

That is good to know, Lukas. I will soon buy a new computer.

I am using the App Store version of Avira Security along Antivirus Pro. They seem to work good together. How safe is it?

Well, the App Store version of Avira is an on-demand scanner that doesn't contain real-time protection.

Pro: You can use this version as an addition to a different antimalware scanner without fearing interferences.

Con: It's just an addition - not a replacement for our Free and Pro which we're offering from our website and you're already using.

    Hi All,

I am having the same issue as the others here with High Sierra on my MAC. Avira was not updating, then for 2 or three days it did update, and now its back to not updating again. I have had the Prime version for years. I am seriously thinking of dumping avira and going with a more professional anti-virus. I need it for Mac and Windows systems. I did contact avira and I was told this:

Unfortunately, Avira Prime works only with:

    • Windows 7 and later
    • Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) and later
    • Android 5 and later*
    • iOS 11 and later

    * This applies to smartphones and tablets, not TVs.

The license is not compatible with your version of the operating system.

I find this unbelievable, why have Prime at all?
