How to tell when the last AV Update took place? (Avira Antivirus Pro)

I seem to have the same issue since last week (updated on Feb 5, 2022) . Normally, hovering over the Avira icon in the task bar showed a tooltip with the last update date. Here, I got the message that the last update was six days ago. This was also the case when I opened Avira Security clicking on the taskbar icon. I then checked the log files in C:\ProgramData\Avira\Antivirus\LOGFILES and the last successful update was performed today and not six days ago. Seems to be an update issue in the application UI.

The log clearly tells me that an update was performed but the frontend UI does not display that properly and shows an old time stamp. It also does not respond to a manual update request. Observing the log file and the task manager clearly shows that updates are performed.

    Hey Markus,

Mine always shows "Today" when hovering but I do miss the old interface style of info. I've always used the free version until recently. I had Prime for 3 months for $0.99 and now Pro for 1 year for $0.99 and all 3 versions have the same dumbed down interface. I turn everything off in services that I don't want then delete it in Program Files (x86) and Program Data. So I try to only use the AV engine and the scheduler Once they make it where you can't manipulate it I'll have to move on. I've been using this AV engine since 2008, hope it last 14 more.

    Hi Michael,

I totally agree. I'm using Avira since 2006. At least there should be some kind of advanced mode for those who regularly want to check the events log or do other things. This overly simplified UI is one thing I don't like. Avira is now a part of Norton Lifelock and as I could see Avast (Also part of Norton) uses the same interface. If this continues I'll also look for an alternative.

Update: After installing the monthly Windows updates and a reboot, the issue seems to have vanished. But it took some time until the tray icon realized that.

    Hey Markus,

I'm glad you told me about Norton Lifelock - Avast - Avira. I remember in 2007, 8 and 9 or so Norton AV or whatever it was called had a creature of some sort standing on the bridge of some kind of spacecraft looking Mickey Mouse Crap as their GUI and all it did was take a bunch of non-Norton related files when you uninstalled it. I don't remember their detection rate, just false positives and uninstall problems, from a lot of people. You also said at least two programs have the dumbed down UI. That in itself is enough to start me at least looking for another AV engine since I'm already leery of anything with the name Norton attached to it.

    Thanks for the heads up,

    michael
