After the installation of Avira Antivirus on a macOS 10.13 High Sierra it is required to grant additional permissions to the product so that it can run correctly.
If after installation a red dot is displayed on the Avira icon, it indicates that the product has been installed successfully, but is not ready to be used.
Setting up Avira Antivirus
The Antivirus needs a user interaction to grant permission to load a kernel extension (kext), which is a software module that enables the Antivirus to use its real-time protection.
- Open System Preferences.
- Go to Security and Privacy settings.
Make sure you are in the menu General.
- Click Allow in the lower right corner.
- Your Avira Antivirus should now work properly.
