During the last couple of years, we continuously improved our detection. This also includes the update mechanism.
Meanwhile, we have switched to a modular concept, which allows us to release smaller files, instead of huge ones. The existing nVDF (vbase000.vdf - vbase031.vdf) was replaced by xVDF (xbv00000.vdf - xbv00255.vdf), our current format for updating virus patterns.
The xVDF format brings two great benefits:
- The first is that the xVDF files only contain incremental updates and never download duplicate data. For you, this means smaller downloads, quicker updates, and less bandwidth consumption.
- The second benefit is that all the incremental updates are compiled into one file that is loaded by the engine, making the Avira application load quicker, which in turn improves the performance of your system.
Starting on 2018-03-26, we will move ahead and exclusively provide the xVDF, and discontinue the nVDF pattern updates for older products, like AV13 and before.
This will ensure that Avira customers will get the latest in detection technology and will make the Avira portfolio ready for the future.
If you use one of the listed products below, please upgrade to the latest version, to be able to use the benefits the xVDF provides and to continue receiving pattern updates.
