Avira Crypto allows you to use your computer's idle time to mine the cryptocurrency Ethereum (ETH). Avira Crypto is an opt-in feature only and is not enabled without user permission. If users have turned on Avira Crypto but no longer wish to use the feature, it can be disabled through the Avira product user interface.

Since cryptomining requires a high level of processing power, it is not suitable for users with an average computer.
Avira Crypto comes with both the required mining solution and a personal wallet built in. After mining, you can easily transfer your acquired cryptocurrency from your Avira Crypto wallet to your Coinbase account.
You can access the service via Avira Security for Windows and monitor your account as well as transfer cryptocurrency to Coinbase via your My Avira Account.

Note
Several countries have banned the trading or use of Ethereum along with other cryptocurrencies. It is therefore important to check in advance if Ethereum is legally permitted in the country you are currently located in.

Are there any charges or fees associated with coin mining?
Avira Crypto is included as part of your Avira subscription. However, transferring Ethereum involves coin mining fees as well as transaction costs. The coin mining fee is currently 15% of the crypto allocated to the miner. Cryptocurrency transfers may result in transaction fees (also known as "gas" fees) paid to the users of the cryptocurrency blockchain network who process the transaction. In addition, if you choose to exchange crypto for another currency, you may be required to pay fees to an exchange that facilitates the transaction. Transaction fees fluctuate due to cryptocurrency market conditions and other factors. These fees are not set by Avira. Please note that Avira makes no statements or guarantees on the financial benefits that you can derive from using the product given the many variables involved including factors like the volatility in value of the currency, the time and effort required to mine a particular block, the equipment utilized and its cost, the amount and cost of additional energy consumption, and associated fees, among others.
Can I pause or stop the mining at any given point?
Yes, you can pause or stop the miner from the Avira Crypto dashboard. You can pause for 1, 4, 8, or 24 hours. Avira Crypto miner will automatically resume the mining after the selected duration completes. You can also pause the mining until the next restart of your computer. If you want to stop mining, you can turn it off. In this case, you must manually turn it on to continue mining.
Will I be able to adjust the settings thresholds or will Avira decide that?
For now, Avira will manage the criteria to identify idle time of the graphics processing unit (GPU) that is used for mining. We are continuing to build capabilities and could potentially make the settings adjustable for you in the future.
