    Hello Ian,

unfortunately, none of our products support Windows Vista any longer. There is also no workaround to install our products on Vista.

We strongly recommend that you update your operating system.

    Dominik Klesel,

    Thank you for responding.

You mention that Windows Vista is no longer supported. Does this only mean that newer versions of the Avira software and installers are no longer supported? I ask because in the following sentence you write that, "There is also no workaround to install our products on Vista" but older installers for your products do seem to function correctly (although newer installers will refuse to start, stating that the operating system is not supported).

In light of this... would purchasing a license for a newer version of a product allow me to use an older version (e.g., Avira Internet Security Suite -> Avira Internet Security Suite 2013)?

I am sorry for asking this again, but your reply has me to an extent even more curious than before. I am more than willing to make a separate purchase(s) for a monthly subscription(s) if that is necessary, given that older installers still function. I have always loved Avira and its products (even as far back for home use when the anti-virus software was known as Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic).

Please let me know. Thank you for responding in the first place.

    Yours,
    Ian

    Hello Ian,

we don´t support the older versions of our products. The old versions also don't get virus updates anymore. This means you would have outdated antivirus software. This, of course, does not make sense.

New licenses will not work with older versions.

For this reason and because Microsoft does not provide security updates for Windows Vista any longer, we strongly recommend to switch to a newer operating system.
