Why is Avira trying to force me to use Windows Firewall when I already have a firewall?

    Hello Deborah,

Avira also works with other Firewalls but can only give you the enhanced settings option for the Windows Firewall.

Therefore, it will send you this error message.

If you setup your new firewall in a way that Windows recognizes it as the default protection there should be no issue at all.

Thank you for your understanding and best regards,

I am having the same problem. Windows recognizes my firewall just fine and knows it's up and running. Avira does not. Every time I go to my desktop Avira pops up and gets in the way. It's frustrating. Also, I had a way to disable it before. I only installed the AntiVirus app. Now it seems to be the Security Suite which I purposefully did NOT install. It's very annoying and I cannot find a method to uninstall the firewall module as I did previously. And I had a link to instructions for that on answers.avira.com yet after the restructuring of your site, I am now unable to find that answer (perhaps because the feature no longer exists?). This install is on Windows 10.

    Edit next day.

I managed to find a partial solution in another thread. You can remove the firewall module after installation by running the old setup program found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Antivirus\setup.exe. Use modify, and turn off the firewall component.

Unfortunately, Avira will still nag you with a pop-up window every time you go through the logon screen.

Thanks to Domenico Niconico's original post of the solution.
