Avira detected problem with MBOX file
TerminéeThis file contains copies from my old emails. I suppose that one of the emails must contain an infected file. But if I delete the .mbox file, I am afraid I will lose all the information.
Is there a recommended way to open the .mbox file and detect and delete just the infected file?
Thanks,

Hello Roger,
we can scan some type of MBOX files. Please try the following:Important: test it first on a copy of the original file and also save the original file on an external drive to make sure, it is working correctly
Activate the All archive types in the settings of Antivirus --> PC Protection --> System Scanner --> Scan --> Archive
Save the changes and then try to scan the copy. If your file type is supported it should just delete the infected file.
If not, we have unfortunately no chance to just delete the infected file.

Thank you for your response, Dominik,
I have a couple of questions:
1.- The MBOX file is in quarantine - so I can only access the .qua version.
2.- This is a Mac; how do I activate ALL ARCHIVE TYPES?
Thanks
Roger

Hello Roger,
sorry, my fault :) In Mac, you can only activate, or deactivate the scanning of archive files.
The fact, that the MBOX file is already in the quarantine means that you already have the scan archive option activated.
In your case, unfortunately, your MBOX file can only be scanned as one file. So we have no chance to just remove the infected file. Here the case is: all or nothing. To your first question, you can, of course, restore the MBOX file from the quarantine by choosing the file and click restore.
However, because the file looks infected we didn´t recommend that.Best,
