Questions on personal information safety and some advises
TerminéeHi,
I am a loyal supporter of Avira from Hong Kong for over 10 years or more.
Recently, I am extremely anxious on internet security since the Hong Kong protest happened. Therefore, I compared to other antivirus software, mainly Avast. Then have some questions & advise for Avira, and hope you guys can answer me and take my advises.
Questions:
- Could you protect all my data and information under a national stress, even in national security excuse, including China? As I saw Avira provide a default simplify Chinese language in VPN services. That make me worried about whether or not Avira outsource some of your services to Chinese companies or even launched a branch in China. With my understanding of China Company Law, the China Government can always take over the control of the company data or any information they need in national security reason. Since July 2019 the Hong Kong protest running, I am pretty sure some of my accounts are being hacked because of my speech of disclosing facts to China netizens. So, Do you have any branches in China or outsourced to Chinese company? Could you protect all my data from national stress? Please answer.
Comments:
- Not much functional compared to Avast in both PC and mobile. You guys seems not take much efforts on marketing. Some services Avast provided are really low tech, such as, camera protection, finger print protection, deep clean on mobile, anti-theft camera trap, photos/files safety box, etc. Those services technicians may despise but really eye catching to customs which have no enough knowledge to identify good or bad. And your competitors are even design a app for rooted devices. That really important. Avira look simply and less functional.
- Avira looks costly. Avira charge $103.99 a year (prime for 5 devices). But Avast only charge $29.99 a year (full services) and look more functional. I am a 10 years more user of Avira, and trust your brand. In my point of view, Avast look more attractive and cheaper. Please tell me what differences of the bundles between Avira and Avast. I'm not paid yet.
I'm waiting for your reply, thank you.

Hello Kelvin,
Regarding your questions feel free to check our data privacy information here:
https://www.avira.com/en/general-privacy
All your data stored within our servers are protected by EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR, EU 2016/679), in particular, Articles 13 and 14 as well as Article 26(2).
Besides that point:
- We constantly improve our apps and working on new features as well. So be sure that we've something in our pipeline which will fit your needs.
- Sadly, we cannot find an offer that is similar to our Avira Prime all-in-solution for up to 5 devices. It's quite possible that one competitor offers different prices for similar services at a lower price in other regions.

Hi Arthur,
Thanks for your reply. You inspired me to check the privacy policy. Then I find out Avast treat data exceptional for Russia. It sucks.
I knew all my data in Avira are under EU GDPR protection and company should obey the legal obligation.
However, could you telling me where the data Avira store in? Which countries?
Are those data-base ALL store in European Area? Did Avira have any data-base in China / Russia?
That's important to me.
Thanks,
Kelvin
