New problem with Avira quarantine today (Feb 21 2020)
Avira AV doesn't normally give me much trouble, but a little while ago it popped up a warning saying that it had detected a virus in a 10-year-old file and moved the file to quarantine. Probably a false detection caused by a new AV signature file. Anyway, I need that file back, so I clicked on Details to go to quarantine and restore it, and there I found a mess!
The Quarantine lists 58 files, all with today's date, but for many of them the File Path shown is Avira's own Infected directory, and the file in which the virus was detected is Avira's qua file. It appears to be re-detecting viruses in its own quarantine. That's a new bug!
Beyond that, the rest is very hard to interpret. All the files show today's date in the cramped little Quarantine window, but I can go into the quarantine directory and see that the Created date for all 58 of the files is years old. I assume that these are old quarantined files shown with the incorrect date. The file I was looking for that was supposedly quarantined today is not there as far as I can tell.
The labeling of the files in Quarantine is a bit cryptic: Some of the 58 listed have a virus ID label, but most are labeled Clean or Restored. Why are they still there at all?
