I totally agree with the Avira User who says you people need to just stop FORCING these decisions onto us and ASK US what we want to see in the software!

I am a paying customer of Avira Antivirus Pro and this smart scan feels like nagware to purchase Prime in order to get rid of the yellow dot notification. As a paying customer, this is not acceptable as it misleads your customers into believing there is a security issue when there is not.

I have been using and enjoying Avira for many years after having tried many other AV solutions before it. Just like all others here the lame attempts to push Prime on me are annoying, randomly installing your VPN on my machines is entirely unacceptable, constantly nagging me with dots on my AV icon is frustrating. I have disabled 'auto renew' and will be looking for another AV solution if this is not rectified between now and my next renewal. I don't need another annoying CCCleaner app on my machines thanks.

I have been a paying avira customer for years.
This is the WORST thing you could come up with.
On top of that it can often interrupt my internet line forcing me to reconnect.
You have always been one of the best anti-virus, with this move you have fallen to the bottom of the list, where there are freeware programs and various cleaners that do more damage than anything else.
The daily yellow dot has practically become as annoying as spam.
Fix this horrible feature QUICKLY or I will never pay for this s**t again.
    I'm so disappointed, SO disappointed.

Letting my subscription run out, then I won't be back.  Could 100% tell they were bought/sold out by the recent changes.

It's a complete shame. I've used Avira for the better part of 15+ years but the screen nag is enough of a bother for something like an antivirus program that I'm willing to leave.

I've been using Avira for decades. Have to find something else now.

You must give the option to users if they want all the extra fluff. I will be gone to Avast soon if this is not  fixed.

Please be SMART, give to us the way to disable (fully or partially) Avira's "smart scan" features, e.g. removing outdated programs, erasing Windows error reports (totally unuseful as everybody knows), etc.

As much as I did not want too, I moved away from Avira Pro over Christmas when my subscription expired(after 10+ years of usage). No more nagging dots and forced features, what a relief.

So what did you leave for? I am keen to leave too, sick of the stupid VPN rubbish and extra crap I didn't ask for nor opt in for.

I usually stuck with Avira and the "one that starts with a K" as the two AVs I trust.

After hearing in December that Avira was bought out by Norton, I jumped ship earlier than I had planned.  RIP Luke Filewalker.

For what its worth, both Kaspersky and Bitdefender have very strong reviews for their free and paid offering. I've had a good experience with both of them, and neither of them force extra non-av related info on you.

I do not care if my cookies havent been wiped after x days. Jeez...

Maybe this business decision from Avira wont materially affect them, but every single technical user I know has dropped them from being recommended.

In the end I went with paid B**defender (after a lot of research) which worked out at £15 for a year (5 devices).

Thanks all for the replies. I came from Kaspersky to Avira many years ago when Avira was much leaner, I have also tried Bitdefender free so will go back and check both out. My current sub doesn't expire until 2023 so I might exit for a free version or just hang on in the hope someone wakes up at Avira. I did not realise Norton acquired them, certainly a red flag I would have responded to immediately if I had of known, that certainly explains a lot!

I am really unhappy and I agree with all problemens mentioned above. I have cancelled my subscription online. (ends 11/2022) Still time to react to listen to customer needs! Otherwise I will switch to competition. I recomend to do so as well!

I agree with many here. The new products are bloated and un-necessary. Not to mention, my smart scan literally does NOTHING! I've installed and re-installed several times, "repaired" the installation and everything! It just shows the same "numbers" after every "fix" that is done. It really makes me wonder if the actual virus, sorry, "virus scan" is really doing anything or does it just show numbers to make people feel good.

    Same as the above.

And it "works great" btw: Telling me that windows 10 ep absolute latest and updated version is outdated.

Also VC++ 2015 specific version which i need for development (aka CAN'T even upgrade).

"4 slow startup apps" - do you also take responsibility for any issues by changing boot orders?

Also please clarify HOW exactly you determine this on systems running custom made business software?

    Where is exclusions?

Stop trying to force sales through people their throats this way - it ends badly for software.

Make a function to turn it off.

I came here to express my deep frustration with the new interface.

For starters I've purchase the Antivirus Pro and to my surprise the interface is EXACTLY THE SAME as the free version.  I've purchased Antivirus Pro because I think that it would allow me to have ONLY the antivirus, contrary to the free service that offers you everything for free so they can entice you to purchase the product.

To my complete shock the Antivirus Pro es EXACTLY THE SAME as the free version which should never happen. In fact I get the same annoying offers to upgrade like I did not purchased anything at all, plus I have to remove the VPN and Optimizer manually by searching on the folder of Avira and manually executing an uninstall. Something that SHOULD BE THERE for paying customers in the first place.

The smart scan is absolute BS, complete and utter BS.  Specially for paid customers of the Antivirus.

We want a piece of software that does exactly what we want them to do.  I've purchase Ashampoo Optimizer 18 to take care of the optimizations and file removal and security.  I do not want my ANTIVIRUS doing the work of a specific program I've purchased to do that job.

I hate with all my guts this stupid way in which they are treating their customers.  If you want all that BS in the package, sure enough they can put it there but they should allow the customer to choose if they want to install it or not so as to have a clean pure antivirus if I want to.

Like why are they installing me all that crap of VPN and Optimizer if they are going to put a "trial product" on my PC?.   I'm not only going to purchase that piece of software, I'm going to hate it because you're trying to sell me stuff on a paid license, something that is usually never a good idea to do.

It's a shame because the antivirus seems great performance-wise after you eliminate all the crap but I just can't eliminate the smart scan warning that keeps showing up. I want to use my Ashampoo optimizer (which was always working great for that purpose but Avira insist on showing me warnings no matter what I do.

As it is right now I do not want the subscription anymore and requested a refund.  I could probably use the free antivirus and find a way to block the smart scan warning or just go ahead and purchase a real antivirus subscriptions from the competing products.

An ability to print off the Smart Scan results would be nice!!!

I have a monthly subscription to Avira and the smart scan is so annoying.  I will be cancelling my subscription immediately.

I'm using F-Secure Antivirus (just antivirus) and sadly for Avira is exactly what I was looking for.
When you purchase an Antivirus you expect to receive an Antivirus and that's it.

I've have a custom Windows 10 installation without Windows Security, or Windows Defender or any implementation whatsoever.

    Just:

    -Basic firewall
    -F-Secure Antivirus

The combo works so good, minimal resource usage and 0 bloatware.  Avira should learn a thing or two about this.  You're shooting yourself in the foot by not offering your users a simple antivirus engine without the bloatware.

To top it all the interface for Avira is full of trial software that you can't uninstall directly.

I believe Avira (free version) smart scan has deleted my MS C++ redist files. these are important files for many video games to run. many video games stopped working. Not only did it delete them, but it made them not accessible. even reinstalling did not fix it. i needed to format my hard drive, and reinstall win 10, then smart scan found them again when scanning. luckily i did not tell it to take any action this time.

This is a serious problem with smart scan. It should not ever delete or isolate these files.

I went to avira website to report it, but was not even able to report it because you can only report a problem if you have a license, not the free version.

what happened to this program? it used to be good.

    Changing to another AV.
Avira is so bad. That orange dot will not go away no matter what. Terrible!
