Accessing BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub

I've been having a lot of problems recently with Google Chrome constantly hanging and throwing up popup messages saying "waiting for proxy tunnel". Despite trying several suggested "fixes" nothing seems to work and it keeps resetting to http=127.0.0.1:58800 or https=127.0.0.1:58800. 

I was desperate and decided to spend money on Avira Phantom VPN. This solved the problem and I was very pleased - until I wanted to watch catch up TV programmes on BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub. I found that I can't access them because they're only available in the UK. Despite my being IN the UK my IP address seems to indicate to them that I'm not and, because of rights issues, they have locked me out.

I've tried setting the IP address to UK London or UK Manchester but that doesn't work. I've tried turning off the VPN but that's no good either because somehow I cannot reconnect to my "normal" IP address.

How can I persuade BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub that I AM in the UK so that I can watch programmes on them?  Or - is there any way of telling Phantom VPN that I want it to ignore certain sites?
