Quick Scan Freezing

When I run a quick scan it freezes at 3666 of 3665 files scanned (which makes no sense), for about 10 mins. cpu usage becomes very high and my mac gets hot, it continues after a while but then freezes again around 3800 and 6000 files. Eventually the scan finishes but the burden on the system during this time isn't right. I'm running macOS Catalina 10.15.6 on Macbook Air. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Avira several times. Can anyone help?

EDIT: After playing around a bit more with Avira, it seems to not be performing correctly. Even the user interface has redundant buttons. On the activity page, the highlighted clickable 'log' button performs no action, so I can't even check the scan log to try to get more info about the scans. After updates it sometimes shows a warning on the scanner page that more than one antivirus is installed which it is not (is it conflicting with itself?). This disappears after a few seconds.

  Hello David,

  The new interface has new buttons behind which there are more settings that can be opened and selected with the gear wheel.
  Unfortunately, you did not tell us which version of Avira was installed.

  It is unfortunate that the new interface with the buttons did not meet your expectations.
  We cannot give you any information about your experience with the scan without giving details - we cannot make any statement.

  Hello Pascha45,

  The button I'm referring to is the 'log' button on the activity page. This performs no function. That was the whole idea of me saying I couldn't get any more info about the scan because I couldn't access the scan log, otherwise I would have sent more info. The product version is the latest downloaded from Avira's website. Please see the screenshots.
