    To the Avira people

Please would you give me a date when this issue/bug will be resolved. I need a time frame as I am not going to wait around indefinitely hoping for a fix. I would like to know the time frame so I can decide if it is worth waiting for the fix or just simply remove Avira & then start to use another Anti Virus application.

    Thanks

    Andrew

I uninstalled Avira and went with Bitdefender. Now the stupid password popup is gone too. Much happier. Avira blew it by being a pest.

First, we thank you for your feedback, letting us know that there was a potential issue with the opening of the Avira Free Security application. We’re happy to report that our team has fixed it, so the issue should no longer happen. If you see this, please flag it for us again.

It’s fixed with version 1.0.37.12019. This version will be rolled out in stages to all customers.

This only started happening after I switched to version 1.0.37.12019. I originally downloaded Avira because people on the internet called it the best free antivirus, but I'm about ready to switch to a new one.

Try setting Avira Security service startup type to Manual or Disabled in services.

It runs "Avira.Spotlight.Service.exe" application that spawns that pop-up.
With Manual setting pop-up shouldn't show up any more and UI will still work if you need it for some reason.
If you don't need to use UI you can set this service to Disabled and it should kill this pop-up along with UI. You can re-enable it later on when you need to use UI.

I thought I would give Avira the benefit of the doubt so waited patiently for a few days whilst it was being rolled out. I've now found that I have been updated to 1.0.37.12019 but regret to say that it is no different, still getting the control panel popping up after every restart, resume from sleep etc.

Windows 10, home edition, 64 bit.

Time to install a different antivirus I think.

I am also on 1.0.37.12019 and NO longer have it popping up when I unlock my computer. I'm not sure why some of you still have this issue.

I've even tried uninstalling then re-installing Avira 1.0.37.12019 but still get that control panel popping up after restart etc. It certainly does seem odd that it has been fixed for some users and not others.

There's been no further response from the technical people at Avira, gives the impression that either: 1) they really don't care or 2) they don't believe there is a problem

    Hello Chris,

even though the issue was fixed for some (like @...) it seems like it's not fixed for everyone. Having the Avira Control Panel popping up after every restart is certainly not what we intended to happen and not what you would expect from Avira.

Rest assured that we do care about this, and we do see that this is a real problem that needs to be fixed. For everyone.

Therefore, our developers are currently investigating it, and we could need help of those who are still experiencing it. If you want to help out, please let me know and I'm going to create a ticket in your name where we would ask you to provide logfiles from your PC.

    Hi Toni,

Mine is still popping up every time the computer screen awakens, or on reboot, etc.

Let me know what log you want to see.

I too found that when my installation updated to 1.0.37.12019 it made no difference. However, I have just uninstalled and then reinstalled and - so far - the problem seems to have gone away. Not sure if this is a permanent solution but others might want to try it.

Version 1.0.37.12157 fixes this for me. The symptom on my PC was that the Avira control panel popped up on every unlock of the screen. With this version I don't get that any more, and Avira software has gone back to its usual quiet operation.

Thanks to Toni & the Avira team for spending time fixing a bug that seemed to only affect users who hadn't paid for the product.

(If you don't want to wait for your Avira antivirus software to upate itself, it seems that you can force an update by right-click on the Avira Security icon in the taskbar, then select "Update Antivirus")

12157 has fixed it for me too (12019 hadn't). Thankyou to the team for the user engagement and fixing this.

When I force updated it today it would not go to version 12157 for some reason.

I re-booted and then I was able to get it to go to that version and it's fixed.

    Thank you!

Bit late coming back but since updating, the exceedingly annoying popup has disappeared. However, I'm annoyed that updates now force Opera on to me. I do not want to use Opera so have the hassle of uninstalling after each update. Come on Avira give us the option or this latest annoyance will be the reason to find another less intrusive free anti virus.

for Gods sake, let the user choose on how to use the bought product. I don't bought prime and I don't want. what I want is the old lightweight powerfull antivirus provided by Avira.

i'm moving to another AV solution

The popup problem that was the subject of this discussion was fixed by Avira so it's not clear what you're complaining about.
