VPN DOESNT WORK
TerminéeHi,
I primarily got the prime sub for the VPN, which simply does not work AT ALL. Tried it for an entire month now - not even once could I get a connection that actually worked.
Description of the problem: I can select a location, the connection is made, but going onto my Netflix app will only show my local content (also checked for different sites / apps, same result). Now sometimes I get to locally unavailable content on Netflix via Google but clicking on Play triggers your standard response "you seem to be using an unblocker or proxy..."
I'm not new to VPNs so I checked different locations, different times of day, hard-closed apps + cleared their caches after geo location switches but nothing - NOTHING - worked. This is simply not useful.
- Operating system: Android 11 (and
- App version: Avira Antivirus 2020 - Kostenloser Schutz & VPN 7.4.1. (and a couple earlier builds)
- Your destination: Germany
- Selected virtual destination: Australia (Perth&Sydney), UK(London&Manchester), USA (L.A., NYC, Miami, SF, D.C.) and many more...

I have exactly the same issue. It worked for a while but for the last couple of weeks at least it doesn't work at all.

Hi Stefan,
Sadly, Netflix is investing a bunch of money and technology to prevent access to their content via VPN.
Why? Well, they are in need to do that to prevent suits from the content owner of their streaming media. So it's quite difficult to gain access via VPN. We're trying our best to find a workaround but it's like a cat-and-mouse game.
Best,

Update:
I have been talking to a nice lady on the Avira customer support hotline and she explained the same to me like you Lukas.
Let me preface with that I do not have a problem with Avira investing less money than others in order to make their VPN work for Streaming Providers. Your choice to do, my choice to buy or walk away.
What I do have a mighty problem with is Avira's take on this well known issue. Let's all be real - circumventing streaming providers' geo-blocks is the most prominent use case these days for using a VPN, and Avira just seemed to good (cheap) to be true in comparison to ones that actually work. And yes, the latter exist. Abundantly. Reliably. Consistently.
Why is there no active and transparent communication around this issue? The nice lady on the Avira hotline told me "it's not going to work for streaming and that's a known fact here". When asked if I wanted this statement sent to me via email I was genuinely surprised. Then I read the slightly yet significantly rewritten comment as: "it might occasionally happen that a streaming provider recognizes + blocks Avira VPN".
Nice one.
And of course, since I'm already 4 weeks in on my yearly subsrciption of a "broken" product (w.r.t. the only use case I bought it for), there's no refund. Reason I didnt cancel within 2 weeks was that I thought Avira would fix this issue rather sooner than later, since I couldnt be the only one complaining. Well, there goes my invest worth 3 months of a working VPN.
Good job Avira on the swift feedback.
Even better job on working your way around openly communicating this issue upfront.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having a similar issue. I just paid for Avira Prime a few hours ago and whenever I try to connect to the VPN I keep getting the message 'It's not possible to connect to the VPN. Please try again later', and whenever I try to change my location it keeps directing me to the page to buy Avira Prime even though I just paid for it lol. Very disappointed with my experience so far, the only reason I went for Avira Prime is because it included a VPN.
I don't think I'll be continuing my subscription - the fact that the VPN didn't work after I paid for the Prime subscription and the responses in this thread are rubbing me the wrong way tbh. I'll keep Avira for the rest of the month (seeing as I already paid for it anyway...) but I think I'm going to get a different antivirus software and a better VPN after that. I'm also a student and don't have a stable income right now, so yeah, it really sucks that the product doesn't even work and there's no clear communication from Avira about it.
Really sorry to hear that you've been getting this sort of response after paying for a yearly subscription and not even being offered a refund, Stefan. I would definitely recommend looking up the best antivirus softwares for this year and choosing one that works best with your finances and computer, and maybe get something like NordVPN or ExpressVPN separately? That's my plan, anyway.
