Browser extension can be removed. That's not the problem.
The problem is this: If I use PORTABLE Google Chrome browser, *every time* I delete the PORTABLE Google Chrome browser folder and start a BRAND NEW iteration of PORTABLE Google Chrome browser then immediately Chrome says "Avira Browser Safety" added.

What is triggering installation of Avira Browser Safety if Avira is no longer installed on these Windows 8.0 laptops which are not updated to Windows 8.1 for compatibility reasons.
    Free Avira.
Avira is uninstalled so that is actually the question:

WHERE is Browser Safety installation coming from?
Avira is not on the list of installed Windows programs on these laptops.
There is no C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira folder at all on the laptops.

    I experimented more.

I reinstalled Avira. When Avira is installed, this does not happen. "Avira Browser Safety" is NOT being added to every new instance of Google Chrome Portable.

But when I uninstall Avira Free, then this problem happens. Every time you start a NEW instance of Google Chrome Portable - you get "Avira Browser Safety" added.

    Hello c627627,

    You have installed Windows 8.0.

Normally, the last update of the version is required for the installation of Avira products. (Windows 8.1)

If something is still unclear, please let us know, we are happy to help.

    Many greetings

Well yes, this is unclear: On Windows 8.1 and on Windows 10, what triggers installation of Avira Browser Safety add-on on Google Chrome browser?

A registry entry or something else, what detects that Google Chrome is started for the first time and attempts to install Avira Browser Safety add-on on Google Chrome under Windows 8.1 and under Windows 10?

    Hello c627627,

    See your information you wrote:

... installed on these Windows 8.0 laptops which are not updated to Windows 8.1 for compatibility reasons.

As Windows 8.1 is quite old, please make sure that you are using the latest version of Windows 8.1. A recommendation can only be made for the installation of Avira products for the current operating systems - with all updates. Thus, the prerequisite is a current operating system with all updates.

If you use a paid version of Avira, it might be better to contact our support team. Due to the limited possibilities, it is very difficult to support outdated operating systems in a forum.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Kind regards

I have the same problem on macOS 11.6 (latest version) with Avira Pro.

After I uninstalled the extensions every time I re-launch Chrome they keep getting reinstalled again.

Btw. it's the reason I uninstalled Avira Security Pro although my license still runs 1 year. Inside Avira Security I've found no setting to avoid installation of Chrome extensions.

Which files I have to delete to avoid reinstallation of the Chrome extensions?

I have the same problem with Windows 11 (latest version). I uninstalled Avira Free long time ago (on Windows 10) and the same extensions as c627627 still pop up.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome a few times but it still comes back.

    Please  answer Andreas Beckmann's question

Which files I have to delete to avoid reinstallation of the Chrome extensions?

My case was on the macOS. I saw the message "error to install avira extension" on the top-right on the chrome browser every time running like chrome --user-data-dir=/some/clean/dir

I found Avira left something in the directory: /Library/Application Support.

    I removed these:
    /Library/Application Support/Avira
    /Library/Application Support/Chromium
    /Library/Application Support/Google

    The message has gone.
