Why does a full system scan now take so long?

I am running the latest version of Avira Free on my Windows 10 computer and am using only 15% of a 1 terabyte hard drive. Previous versions of Avira ran full scans in about 1.5 hours with no other programs running. The current version takes nearly 3.5 hours!  Why so slow and why such a big difference in speed?

  Hello Dennis,

  Well, we cannot nail it into one point as there are several reasons why scan speed is changing. 

  • Improved scan engine
  • File content
  • Changed scan settings
