GOG Galaxy Store game updates make Endpoint Protection Service eat up all CPU
CompletedHi all,
GOG Galaxy is an official Game Store manager for GOG, the parent company for CD Project RED who makes The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, among other games. It also has many other titles for all kinds of developers.
Whenever GOG Galaxy updates a game, my i7-8700k is put to a crawl as Avira seems to be attempting to check the file updates constantly. I find that Avira also keeps blocking updates for various games. Lots of people on the GOG forums seem to report trouble with Avira blocking updates and slowing their machines down.
I've whitelisted the GOG program files folder and the Games folder, but it still hits the CPU hard. I think this requires the Avira team to whitelist the software.
As you can see by the attached image, it eats up all my remaining CPU regardless of what's running. My mouse and all of Windows' UI gets sluggish. I usually idle at around 20% CPU, so this shouldn't be happening.
Once the game update completes, both System and Endpoint Protection service drop down to near 0% system usage.
Please take a look at this. Kind regards,
