Free Avira security makes changes to Windows registry without notification
Periodically Avira makes changes to the Windows registry without notifying me (the USER). Specifically, it changes the registry entries for the HTA file extension/file type. I am a Software Engineer and use these frequently for prototyping applications, and when Avira changes the registry entries (WITHOUT NOTIFICATION), it creates considerable confusion, and I have to go back and fix the registry to undo the changes. If you are going to make registry changes to a user's system, at least have the decency to notify us of the changes you are making (and provide some guidance and reasoning as to why you are making those changes). As a Software Engineer, I do have the knowledge and experience to understand the issues behind HTA files (and VBS and JS files) - and can work with them safely. Also, changing the registry without notification is just discourteous and makes me wonder what other things Avira is doing underneath that are not being disclosed. The more information you provide to the user, the better for all of us - after all, we opt to use your software on computers that we own and are responsible for managing.
