Avira Spotlight Service
How the F-Hell do I get rid of this?
It gobbles up 2Gb of my 4Gb memory and hangs my laptop.

Hello Phillip,
Sorry to hear that.
Our system requirements are described with a maximum of 2GB RAM which should be available for running our program.
Since you talk about Spotlight and we had a bug where additional features were installed without consent, please check this guide for an uninstallation of all parts of the product that you don't want to use.

We already fixed this bug but it won't remove additional software that was already installed due to the issue.
Thank you and best,

What is this even?
I'm surprised there's no information anywhere online. Can someone please explain what this module is supposed to do?

The issue all of a sudden started one night while busy working and my laptop hung on me.
Ok, so leave it and go to bed.
Then again 2 days later same thing in the middle of the day.
Do a Cntrl-Alt-Del and look at the processes running.
There was the culprit chewing up 2Gb!!! Apart from Chrome which is memory hungry and also running Outlook, Word and Excel.
I did the fix as indicated above and it seems ok now.

Thanks, Phillip. Did you have it listed under 'Programs and Features' then, to be able to get rid of it? All I see in my list are Avira, Avira Security and Avira Antivirus... But I did catch 'Spotlight Service' lighting up my memory yesterday in Process Explorer.

Hi, I just followed the instructions as given by Dominik and uninstalled what apps I did not want. Seemed to work.
