I have found a temporary workaround:
Terminate this Windows service by executing "sc stop Avira.ServiceHost" as administrator in command shell.
This has to be performed every time the computer is started up.

I am very sure that this is a software bug using active waiting loops.
I request Avira to fix this.
    Thx.

I have the same problem. Also the main Avira program icon doesn't start, I just see a series of circles spinning around.

I have set up a shortcut to issue the sc stop command.

I have the same problem: Around 25 % CPU all the time for Avira Service Host and hence fan on, quite annoying.

I would be very pleased to find a solution :-)

What would a normal CPU % be? What is yours?

It also bumps my CPU temperature from an average 40degree Celcius to 50degree Celcius.

    BTW

    I am using intel core(TM) i3 2120.

    8GB ram

Same problem on my PC. Avira Service Host keeps running and running, keeping the CPU busy.

Actually the problem is completely different. Avira has made new platform that is not completely compatible with the old version. So you need uninstall then reinstall Avira. My best Regards to the all.

Stop mining bitcoins on my computer! I've paid for your service, don't be a jerk!

Same problem, Avira was using 44% of CPU causing the common problem of 100% CPU usage with resulting disastrous performance. Best cure I've found is to uninstall all Avira apps and revert to Windows Defender.

The PC is now incredibly fast again!

@ ABDUL HASAN ABDALLAH : Thank you for your hint!

I've uninstalled and re-installed Avira Prime and this has solved my problem. PC fine again, user happy!

Problem has been solved by reinstalling or repairing "Avira Security".

Repairing Avira not helped for me, but I can stop this service in "services". Does anyone know the function of this service? Is it safe for antivirus protection to disable it?

You need to create a *.cmd file containing the following line:
    sc stop Avira.ServiceHost
Then start this cmd file with admin rights.
