Antivirus Free and Firewall Module, how to disable it ?
Hello,
Recent Avira update brought a new interface with minimal possibility of interaction on what modules you can install or you can uninstall, and I think it's really bad.
I always choose Avira for it's "lightness" and the possibility to install only the Antivirus module because I only needed this, and I usually don't like bloatware installed without my permission and that I don't need.
Yesterday all of a sudden Phantom VPN icon appeared on my taskbar, and I succeeded removing that by disabling the service manually, but the main problem I have now is with the Firewall module.
I DON'T WANT windows defender firewall enabled for my private lan connection, for an amount of good reasons, but with the latest version I can't disable Windows Firewall without Avira going into "Warning mode" telling me that it's disabled and keeping the Avira Umbrella Icon closed like there's a problem with protection.
More disturbing is that when I reboot my PC the Windows Defender Firewall is reactivated again by Avira. Why ???
Is there a way to get rid of Firewall module from Avira ? Let me control the firewall when I want and how I want.
Thanks.
Maurizio.

I too today reinstalling Avira I encountered the same problem, in the end I found the solution, go to the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Antivirus" and start the setup.exe file this will open the old setup that will allow you to remove the firewall module.

I tried this and it partially worked for me.
The good news is that after uninstalling the Firewall module and a reboot, Windows Defender Firewall is no longer reactivated.
The less than good news is that every time I login to windows (unlock the screen) I get the Avira popup window that says I need to address the Windows Defender firewall not being turned on.
At least I can ignore it now and click to make it go away, yet it's still annoying to get the notification, because it pops up to the front EVERY TIME.
Windows Defender Firewall knows my firewall is working - the Windows Settings Firewall & Network Protection page says "no action needed" for all networks and then when I check the individual network pages Microsoft Defender Firewall notes "Microsoft Defender Firewall is not active, because you're using other providers." Yet Avira apparently can't figure this out.
So why does Avira NOT recognize this and keeps bugging me about it. The other good thing is that Avira bugs me less than Avast which I abandoned long ago - before the AVG merger. And I was using BitDefender before Avira, but it got hosed somehow and BD couldn't figure out how to get it unhosed.
Anyhoos, thanks for the partial solution - it fixed the hard work part, just not the annoying pop-up part.
