After the last update I can't find anymore advanced settings, as for ex. to unprotect the host file

  Hello Ste,

  Unfortunately, you have not specified which version of Avira your question concerns.
  The new interface has 4 groups on the left side of the screen:

  Status - Security - Privacy - Performance

  Have you ever clicked the cogwheel to the next settings under safety?

  If you have further questions, please describe which Avira version and which BS you have installed.

  I have clicked the cogwheel on the settings under safety, it only makes me change the language

  on the left side, 4 groups, see Sicurezza  ⇒ cogwheel
