    Hello Mike,

Could you be so kind and provide us a screenshot from your whole screen when this message appears?

Also - first of all - please try a re-installation of Avira to make sure that the installation is set correctly.

We have the same problem in a several PCs.

I think disable AVIRA in TaskManager is not a good solution. AVIRA must to solve this problem, not users.

I got the same popup. Running windows 7. I opened TaskManager and killed the task "Avira.....something.....UI".  The popup disappeared and avira was working normal..............(?).

The full name of the task is Avira.Spotlight.UI.Application.Messaging.exe *32.

Have the same issue. Stopped Avira process from the task manager and it went away. Since this issue has been going on for so long without being fixed, I have decided to uninstall Avira and go with another program.

This thread was cathartic. We've also been suffering this problem for about two months now on multiple computers and I've learned that my mom works with this in the corner of her screen every day. It covers her writing and is endlessly distressing.

Since the task manager is difficult for her to use and I'm not always available to help her I created a script that will close all the Avira Spotlight processes when she double clicks on it. She was so ecstatic the first time she used it that I begin to reconsider the mental toll that this has had on her.

To make the script create a text file on your desktop and rename it "Kill Spotlight.bat". If you don't see the file extensions then you'll have to turn them on. If you've renamed it successfully then the icon will change to a picture of two gears.

Right click on the file and click "Edit" and it should open in notepad. Paste in the following command and save the file.

    taskkill /F /FI "IMAGENAME eq Avira.Spotlight*"

When you double click on your new program it will use the Windows command "task kill" to end any processes that start with "Avira.Spotlight".

The parameter /F means force close and /FI means filter where the name equals Avira.Spotlight*. The asterisk is a wildcard that means anything can come after it.

Please, post the source code and we'll take a look. We're dying for a solution here.

So this is an AVIRA problem.
Many AVIRA users seem to have it.
It virtually blocks your whole screen and makes your PC unusable, so that's what you would call a major problem.

This is the Avira forum and, dear Ladies and Gentlemen from the Avira support, you are letting users guess a solution instead of helping and giving guidelines here?

Would you be kind enough and advise what to do about this?

If this persists, bye bye Avira - effectively sawing off the branch you're sitting on as the AV renders the PC it's supposed to protect unusable. Fix it now, please, and the users might consider continued usage. Otherwise, not so much....

I read the comments above - 3 months with this BS - BYE BYE AVIRA! If you can't be bothered to fix such a major issue in such a long time, you don't really want any users, do you?

Hello Petra Ahnfors/ Treb/ Gymclass Hero,

Well, we couldn't reproduce this behavior and are in need to create an SLS ticket for our dev. dept.

Please be so kind and tell us if this is okay for you to send you an email (GDPR).

As soon as we have your approval, we'll create a ticket and will move your request to our SLS team.

    Thank you in advance.

It has just happened to me as well, the way I managed to get rid of it was:
    1. Kill Avira.Spotlight.UI.Application.Messaging.exe in TaskManager
    2. Right-click on Avira tray icon, select Manage Antivirus, wait for the window to load, then close it
I've seen Avira.Spotlight.UI.Application.Messaging.exe launch in TaskManager again for a second but it did not produce the window again. It hasn't happened again since then.

    I have the same problem.

Of course, I can't report this problem using the internal system in Avira, as that is broken as well.  I receive an error when I try to contact support.

Edit: I just realized that the support error is suggesting that I don't have internet access.  (Which I do, since I'm currently using the website and zoom.)  So perhaps it's an error relating to avira not thinking it (as an app) has access to the internet?

    Of course, I can

Hello Amy T - As already mentioned - but sadly without any feedback yet - our dev. dept. is needing to grab a bit deeper and would like to get in touch with you.

If it's okay, that we'll create an SLS ticket, please give us a "Go" here and we can proceed (GDPR).

I had the same problem starting months ago.  I ran the image through tineye, with no luck.  I finally had to post the image to yahoo answers...and somebody responded that it was a problem with avira.  THAT is how I found this support thread.

To Lukas Huptas, I would say:

Why is your dev. dept. still searching for a solution that was posted by Gymclass Hero a week ago?  Avira itself seems to run fine without the specific task called Avira.Spotlight*  (something)

Seeing that it's popping up on top of everything, I'm betting it is some kind of advertising, pushing the purchase of Avira products.  Only, the advertising is malfunctioning in a way that is rendering computers useless, as you can't get rid of the advertising screen that overlays whatever you are working on at the time.

So the fix is obvious.  Kill all advertisements and push an update to temporarily patch avira to NOT run ads.  When you find a way to advertise that doesn't interfere with people using their computers THEN maybe re-enable the ads...

    Started for me today.

I did not find Avira.Spotlight.UI.Application.Messaging.exe in Task Manager BUT there were two instances of Avira Security (32 bit) ala tyrogo, above. I killed the one using the most memory and it disappeared it.

I am an IT consultant. I can name at least 10 of my clients where this is happening.

Killing the process or rebooting makes it go away, at least for a while, but it usually returns a few days later.

I am hours away from telling my clients to switch to another antivirus as this is NOT getting the attention it needs from Avira.

I see in above emails you are spending days waiting for permission to email someone that is literally asking for help. That is just an insane level of hiding.

Please respond to this publicly. There are many, many internet pages showing this problem. Just google white globe popup or Avira globe. You asked one user to open a ticket (with aforementioned delay of asking permission to email him) but are leaving all others hanging on the utter lack of feedback.

    This is happening. A lot.

We've now waited for weeks for anything from your side. Updates are NOT resolving this.

For the record, you can email me and I can provide AD or such access to PC's where this is happening.

We also have this problem with one of our computers, and the only solution we have found is to restart it.

I only discovered this issue was related to Avira by taking a photo of the symbol and doing a Google Image Search for it, which led me here. Otherwise we would have had no idea what was causing the problem. Please update ASAP!

I also had this pop up last week, and again today. Did what others did: searched on the net and found this.

Stopped the Avira service, and the pop-up disappeared. I restarted Avira, but don't see the program in my taskbar, so I feel unsure if the antivirus really did restart. Checked in Taskmanager, and it seems to be running, but I do not feel safe with the way this works and is being handled.

This has been going on for long. If it pops up again, I will uninstall Avira and find another antivirus.
