Avira Tray icon incomplete text info
AnsweredI have an unusual problem with Avira. The problem is with the application tray icon. Earlier, when I started the operating system in the tray there was an initial icon, which when hovering over it with the mouse "initializing" text appeared. After a while, the icon changed to the one showing:
"Avira
Status: Protected
Last update: Today " (for example).
Thanks to this information, whenever I turned on the system, I could quickly check whether the system was protected and up-to-date by hovering over with the mouse pointer. Since yesterday's (or maybe earlier) update It's different. Although in the main Avira window in the Status, Modules and Activity tabs I see that "Your computer is secure" and all Avira modules and services are turned on without any errors, but the Avira tray icon shows only text:
"Avira"
or sometimes:
"Avira
Status: protected " (without info about beeing up-to-date)
or:
"Avira
Last update: Today "(for example).
it seems that Avira tray icon for some reason shows incomplete info about application status.
The text configuration that is displayed seems to be random, sometimes it is full "Avira, Status: Protected, Last update: Today" and sometimes it is only "Avira".
Therefore, I wanted to ask if anyone encountered this problem. I have always used the information provided by the tray icon to quickly check if the system is safe, but now I don't know if it is and if Avira is working properly. Reinstalation of Avira does not corrected this problem.
Additional info: I always use recent up-to-date Avira Free Antivirus, Windows 10 20H2 with recent updates.

Hello turbomaciek,
This behaviour is really unusual.
Have you already downloaded this version from here https://www.avira.com/en/free-security and tried a manual reinstallation with prior clean-up before the new installation? If the behaviour does not change, please send us screenshots for our information and describe your exact procedure for eliminating the error.
Many greetings and have a nice weekend

Hi,
yes, the installer was downloaded from Avira original page:
Support-> Downloads-> Buissness-> Avira pro, and during instalation option for Free antivirus was selected. I also have system disk image created for clean Windows install with Avira installed (that I created few days ago).
When I restore system to that state everything works properly
(all the time Avira taskbar icon shows correct info).
Problem occurs when I update Avira to current definitions (since 2021-03-04).
When I update Avira nad reboot, system Taskbar Icon start to behave
as I mentioned before. Sometimes it shows all informationa, and sometimes "Avira" only.
I must say that when I reboot system, PC is always not initialy connected to the internet. Maybe It's because Avira is trying to update/connect to server while initializing, and becouse
there is no internet connection it stucks in that state..?Greetings, and have a nice weekend :)

Hi,
So are you saying that I shouldn't install this way? Is that version I am installing (that is available on the Avira website) outdated? I install the system this way because I have a very poor internet connection and I needed to install the free version from an offline installer and the only offline installer available is the Avira Antivirus Pro for Buissness installer (from Avira.com->Support->Downloads->For Buissness), where I choose "Install free Antivirus" during the installation.
Greetings

Hello,
my icon disapears after view seconds. In beginning he show the same behavior with "initialisation.." and then it looks like it crashed. I´m in contact with Avira support since one month, no solution yet. Today I reinstall complete OS, because situation became worse, Avira told me permanent I´ve old software, but software was up to date...

Hello,
in my case, as I wrote before, the icon does not disappear. When booting the system, an icon with a smaller umbrella and the word "Initializing ..." appear. After a while it changes to an icon with a "larger" umbrella and the words "Avira", sometimes with the full text "Avira, Status: Protected, Last update: Today" (for example). Some time ago I noticed that Avira during update or background initial fast system scan changes the tray icon text, for example to "Avira, Last update: Today" (not showing Status: Protected), but earlier after update or scan the icon showed full correct information again. So I previously thought this was normal behavior for this program. But now, from the very start of the system after "Initializing ..", Avira icon often shows only the text "Avira", so I do not know whether the system is safe and whether Avira works properly. As I can see this problem also occurs in other users and it is a pity that we can not do anything about it. Personally, I consider Avira (free version) to be the best free antivirus program, because it is very effective, does not install to many unnecessary add-ons / sub-programs and does not rape the eyes with advertisements. But the fact that there is no offline installer is very disapointing. Besides, as I wrote earlier: there is an offline installer version for Avira Antivirus Pro on the Avira.com website, from which you can also install the program in the free version, but from what I hear it is outdated and its use is not recommended. If so, why is it available? Avira is a very good program, but I'm afraid that if these problems with the lack of offline installer for Avira Free Security and problems (so far minor in my case) with the program itself are not resolved, I will migrate to another AV program (yet I have no idea for which, because Avira seems to be the most sensible solution).Greetings

I have a similar issue where if i hover over the icon just after startup it displays 'initializing' then in a few seconds it disappears.
The services are running and if i launch my desktop icon all seems well except the system tray icon is missing.
A reboot restores this, i just have to resist hovering over it when it is initializing
This is obviously a bug which I am going to report to support
(I have the paid for version not the free version) Avira internet security
