Can't get past master password

After I enter the correct master password in password manager, the screen just keeps asking me to enter it again. It is the correct password (it says something different if I enter an incorrect password).

  It's OK. after several days of not being able to get in, it suddenly started working, so I guess they fixed something.

  Problem: What is a master password? It keeps saying it's wrong. Avira never tells me to enter a master password. WTF is going on?!
