Manual updates
Avira is still supporting manual updates for older offline computer systems by delivering updates for nVDF. There are many websites that deliver the manual updates with nVDF files from Avira.

 

I have a question about that.

 

Offline computer
I am using Antivir free version v15.0.17.273 for an offline computer on windows xp and I download the latest virusdefinitions with Avira Update Tool and it all works.

 

But.....on some forum it says:
"nVDF – can be only used to Version 9~14"
Does nVDF really work in version 15?

 

I don't know where they found that information but the nVDF download works and it installs in v15 even after deleting the xVDF's en local.vdf. But let's say they are right....that would mean that v15 installs the nVDF's but can't use nVDF it only acts like it works and that offline manual updates are not really working anymore.

 

When I fresh install v15 I get virus definition file v8.12.77.108 and later after the manual update I get virus definition file v7.19.14.64. This seems like a downgrade but maybe the v8.12 is for xVDF and the v7.19 is for nVDF. The search engine was a higher version after manual update.

 

My question is:
The virus definition file has a lower update number after doing the manual update! Does nVDF really work in version v15.0.17.273?
