cannot manually full scan Avira Free anymore after an update on Friday July 1 2022 Windows 10
Hello I have been able to manually scan my computer any time from the dashboard but after an update on July 1 there was an indication saying New for this. When I tried to perform a scan a message comes up to say there is a problem and Avira will try to fix this. . I can do a quick scan but not a full scan . How do I fix this problem please ??
I don't even know if my computer is actually scanning with Avira anymore

ditto. The free version can do "quick" but "full", "local drive", etc. I placed the eicar.com, a well known fake test file, then Avira detected it immediately before running or copying the eicar. So, at least on my Windows 10 environment, its real-time protection seems to be functioning.

I had a custom scan. It disappears and I cannot re-create it with the same error message. Alas! For the time being, I uninstall the Avira Security free and switched to the Avast One free. If I see some answer to the original post, I will re-install the Avira.

Thank you Noel. I have used Avira free for many many years now with no issues and this is disappointing. I have discovered a way to run a full scan or quick scan by using the Avira umbrella hidden icon in the task bar and right clicking my mouse. . This gives you a choice of three scans and they do work .
They will have to fix this problem of course. At least I believe I can run a full scan but file walker seems to have disappeared. I know as you also do , have to have complete faith in this protection

Resolved!
As I wrote, I uninstalled. Then Roger commented about the tray icon, which I didn't think at all, and I re-installed to try that suggestion. It is a new version - 1.1.69.29688. I don't know the old version number, though, the interface has changed. At the settings (gear icon), added some options formerly seen in the Luke File Walker's window.
The new version allows me to execute a full scan and create a custom scan. Thank you, Roger.

Thank you Noel again. I will try to uninstall my Avira and reinstall but I am loathe to do this yet. It should have been considered by Avira .
I keep getting messages that something is wrong so I will undoubtedly have to take this course . I can manually update and manually scan at will so for the moment I will hope that Avira is aware of this and rectify the problem . Otherwise your option will be performed . If it works then it is right

I have Avira Prime. I have the same issue. I can no longer do a full scan but can perform a quick scan.
I was sent a renewed subscription licence on Saturday 2nd July and I can download this and click to activate but cannot run as administrator. Seems that there is a glitch in the system !!

Hello Carol. I am sorry that occurred. I am not familiar with Avira Prime only the free edition and can offer you only the previous attempts by Noel and Myself to rectify this. I cannot do a full scan from the main dashboard but can do a quick scan . I can manually update from that dashboard though. I can manually quick scan and full scan by the method I mentioned right clicking Avira which is in my hidden icon so at least I feel safer. If I try a full manual scan from the main dashboard I get a message from Avira that something is wrong and Avira is looking into it for a solution. Hope they work it out or advise us and not leave us in the cold. Until now have never had a problem. File walker seems to have been replaced

I have the same problem. Avira version is 1.1.69.29914. When I click on FULL SCAN (which is also "new"), the Window just becomes unresponsive and nothing seems to happen. I look at Task Manager but cannot discern any significant activity for the process; it may be doing a scan but I expect visual feedback for this. There is none, so the process is almost certainly stuck and I have to manually kill it.
By the way, I object to Avira claiming that this is a "new" feature, ostensibly to rack up the price. It was the mainstay feature from the start, twenty or more years ago when I first started using Avira.
