How are my password secure in password manager?
TerminéeHi. I get frequent alerts that some of my passwords are re-used. I can understand this because all the passwords are in the same database and the tool can easily see duplicates.
However, I also got an alert that one email address and password were found on the dark web. I changed it; that's not the only issue. If my passwords are saved with zero-knowledge encryption and Avira team cannot see them, how does the tool check for them on the dark web?
Thanks.

Hello Satya,
Unfortunately, we cannot answer your question about password search technology.
How software manufacturers proceed with warnings to detect the misuse of passwords would be a question for the software manufacturers' technicians.
You are writing here in the Avira Community, an user2user forum. Avira users answer here - volunteers helpers ⇒ users answer users! The Avira Community is not a direct Support channel. Here for you once more again the description, see:
Avira Community Guidelines – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | Avira
The Avira technicians can be reached with a valid Avira licence via Avira Support, not from here via the publicly accessible Avira community.
The Avira Community is subject to the strict requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation. Unfortunately, questions about your licence or installation can only be answered by the support team via your GDPR-compliant customer account by email.
With the search engine of your choice, you will certainly find explanations on how to search for password abuse on the Internet. Perhaps there are readers here in the public forum who can help you clarify your question.
Best regards and have a nice weekend
