Avira Identity Assistant is a service in your My Avira account that regularly scans the Internet using a continuous algorithm to determine whether your personal data is found on the dark web.
Avira Identity Assistant uses advanced surveillance technology to regularly search websites, marketplaces, monitor private forums, social networks, and the dark web where information is traded and sold, looking for the user's personal information.
If your information is found, you will be notified immediately by email so that you can take appropriate action. Exposed information does not yet necessarily mean that it has been used to hack into an account or to commit identity theft.
Stolen Wallet Assist is also included with Avira Identity Assistant. A stolen wallet can mean a stolen identity. If your wallet is stolen, we’ll provide you with guidance on how to cancel or replace credit cards, driver’s license, and more.
If Avira Identity Assistant detects that your identity has been compromised, you will be notified by email so that you can take appropriate action.
You can also check the Dark Web notifications in your My Avira account (go to Avira Identity Assistant -> Dark Web Monitoring). Under Dark web notifications, select the notification you want to check and click “View details” on the right. Here you’ll find helpful and detailed information on what to do next.
Note
Exposed information does not necessarily mean that it has been used to hack into your account or that you have been a victim of identity theft.

The Dark Web is a section of our Internet that is invisible to conventional search engines, such as Google or Bing. These are not individual websites, but a kind of network that can only be accessed with special tools, software or permissions.
With an anonymizing browser called Tor (The onion router), users can access this network and surf around anonymously, as Tor routes information through a series of encrypted layers. The Tor network is one of the largest and most popular darknets and is referred to by most people as the Dark Web.
The dark web also offers several boards and chatrooms also websites that look similar to traditional websites. They contain sales offers, customer reviews, and advertisements. However, due to the increased anonymity on the Dark Web, criminals are very fond of using these platforms to buy and sell illegal goods and services. Many identity thieves, cybercriminals, and hacker groups make their money by selling stolen information.
We are sorry you have experienced such an event. We will need to speak with you regarding this matter. Please contact Avira Support at your earliest convenience.
