    Hello Brad and Leanne,

We have noticed that you have also contacted the support team, have already created tickets there, and have already received answers.
We would like to recommend that you continue to contact the support team. Thank you for your understanding.

    Many greetings

I have contacted support and unfortunately their technical understanding is minimal and do not understand the issue at all. The quote from support is that Avira makes DNS requests and there for at idle without processing, the DNS Client should be running at 8%. My calculations would be that on my machine this would be requiring Avira to make approximately 10M DNS requests per second!! If I use wireshark and look at the requests on the wire this is not the case and there are very few DNS requests actually gong to the DNS server. If I remove Avira it goes away. I reinstall avira it returns. It only happens post Microsoft KB5020687 and KB5019959 or 2H22 are installed.

So, if Avira is required to make 10M DNS requests per second, and is incompatible with these Microsoft patches then its not acceptable for use by any consumer. Appears I have spent more time trying to fault find your product than your support team.

Please advise how Avira plan to provide support based upon my software purchase given it is not compatible with windows. Thanks.

Uninstalling Avira returns the PC to normal. As quoted to support. As soon as installation as Avira occurs the DNS Client returns to 8-10% load at idle. I'll try a complete fresh install of windows and if Avira does not function on that as expected I'll be requesting a refund for the fact that Avira is not compatible and operating correctly with windows.

Oh and I'm posting here because I need actual technical support and appears most of that will come from users who have to resolve the issues themselves. So please do not remove this as I want to resolve your problem.

So blowing away my entire PC and installing windows from scratch and Avira this is not present. So the statement that it is normal for 8-10% DNS Client load when Avira is installed is incorrect. I guess I am now by myself to figure this out.

After many many hours put in to investigate and resolve Avira causing this the end answer was i had to disable windows dns cache or just remove avira. Presently I've disabled windows dns cache and this has fixed the issue. Still no actual support as to why Avira behaves this way.

I have the same problems on my 2 computers. I don't know why.

I have to uninstall the new version of Avira, and install the old version, then the problem is gone.

    Hello Alice,

Unfortunately, we also don't know why this is the case.  You write in a post that probably has nothing to do with your topic and your question.
Unfortunately, we can't understand your question, we don't have any information about your OS, your Avira version and your update. We do not have access to your account or your installation. Only Avira support has access.

The publicly accessible Avira Community is unfortunately not a way to contact Avira Support directly.
    See the Avira Community Guidelines:
Avira Community Guidelines – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | Avira

Premium customers with a valid license and correct login can contact the support team directly from the customer account under "SUPPORT". Thank you for your understanding.

    Many greetings

One of my 2 computers is a desktop PC with Win11 22H2, the other is a laptop with Win10 22H2.

Originally they both had the old version 15.0.2201.2134 of Avira Free, when there are no problems as Brad said.

Some days ago, there were notices said that the old version of Avira would not be supported anymore, which were automatically updated to the latest version with the black theme interface.

Then the problems came up the same as Brad encountered. My cpus are both 4 cores 4 threads. The process "Service Host: DNS Client" occupies 25% of CPU, which means the process occupies a whole cpu thread.

As Brad said, the process "Service Host: DNS Client" runs at 7-8% of his 8 cores 16 threads cpu, which means it also occupies a whole thread.

I changed all the options in Avira to investigate the problem, but nothing changed.

So I had to uninstall the latest version of Avira Free in my 2 computers, then the problems gone immediately.

After reinstalled the old version 15.0.2201.2134, the problems didn't come up again.

There are some other notable issues.

When the latest version of Avira Free is installed, the process "endpoint xxxx xxxx" (the Avira process which I forgot the last 2 words) occupies 6~8% of cpu, the same time as the process "Service Host: DNS Client" occupies 25% of CPU.

And the network program, such as Bitcomet, occupies twice the cpu usage than usual.
