Avira Real-Time Protection (avguard.exe) fails to start. Causing slow PC startup.
CompletedHello, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1. My Windows installation is up to date as of writing this. I am using Avira Free Antivirus. After the recent July 24th update to Avira version 15.0.1907.1514, I have been having issues starting up my computer. Specifically, after the Windows logo displays, my screen becomes black and only shows my cursor. I can move my cursor but nothing else happens. After about 10 minutes on this screen the Windows log-in will finally appear. I see in my Event Viewer that Avira Real-Time Protection (avguard.exe) is failing to start with my computer, and in turn is causing it's dependent services to also fail to start. Once I make it to my Desktop, I can start Real-Time protection normally by manually checking Avira for updates or opening Avira and clicking FIX NOW (it detects that Real-Time Protection is not running). This issue is causing my computer to hang on startup every time for at least 10 minutes. I have scanned for viruses, repaired my installation, scanned my hard drive for errors, and defragmented my hard drive. Nothing yields any results, and I am convinced that the recent update to Avira caused this issue. Please push out an update out to fix this soon. Thank you!
PS - avguard.exe is indeed set to start automatically under Services. It is also set to "Restart the Service" on it's first and second failure to start. If I try to change these options I get an ACCESS DENIED message.

Hello,
First of all, we're sorry for the late response.
Does the issue still exist? Did you already try a clean reinstallation?

Hello Justin Case,
I wonder how you solved this problem ? I observe exactly the same thing since Avira and Windows 7 updates a few days ago - hanging for ca. 10 mins on booting and Windows logs stating because of problem starting Avira Real Time Protection. However, once booting is finally completed, Real Time Protection is in fact active.

Hi all,
i have the same problems since 8. december. After same research i must disable 4 avira services (translated from german):
- Avira email protect
- Avira planner
- Avira realtime protection
- Avira web protect
If i dont disable at least email and web protect the pc starts but then hangs after windows desktop and icons are loaded.
I have windows 7 and have tried to reinstall Avira but doesnt help.1
