    Hello Julia,

Please check during your Avira installation, i.e. for the selectable components - whether the shell extension is marked with a check mark, i.e. is activated.
Otherwise, you can check the box to activate this function during a repair installation.

    https://support.avira.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000746709-How-do-I-repair-my-Avira-Antivirus-

The shell extension provides the context menus.
After that you have the possibility to scan the file before opening it with a right click.

    Does this help you?

If something is still unclear, let us know, we are happy to help.

Best wishes and a nice weekend

Hi  - Thank you for this! I checked the components and the shell extension was checked. Did the repair but it still does not allow me to access Avira Document Scan with the right click drop down.

I think I need to Add it via 'Addins' under "Manage COMM add ins' but I do not know which Avira file or component to select once I get to the Avira Program File.

    Help! Thanks!

    Hello Julia,

Sorry about that, it would have been nice...

According to these instructions I have also made the setting - I have also recommended it this way: https://support.avira.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360008452677-Datei-mit-Avira-%C3%BCberp%C3%BCrfen-Kontextmenu

    But not with Outlook.
Maybe a request would be helpful?
I am using Win 10 2004, all updates and Avira

    Best regards

Thank you - I went into Control Panel --> Programs --> Programs and Features --> Modify or Repair.

I only lets me choose to Uninstall Avira.

Do you know how to enable access in Outlook?

    Thanks!

    Hello Julia,

It is strange that you cannot make a repair installation in the Avira Control Panel.
The shell extension has nothing to do with Outlook, I don't have Outlook and can use the advantages of this shell extension.
As stated in Erwin's thread, without Outlook, the advice worked for him too.

It would be good if you could find someone who knows Outlook. Maybe there is someone here in the forum who knows about this problem and can help you.

I'm sorry that I can't be of further help.

    Best wishes

    Hello Julia,

I do not fully understand this question - "how do I access the Avira Control Panel??"

Below is a video to understand the Avira panel:
