We’re here to help

On Windows 10 sometimes the Avira manual update hangs up on 85% complete & does not continue or complete the update. I have to reboot to get it to work.

    Hello Sanford,

Unfortunately, we can only get an idea of your problem if we have precise information.

Please provide precise information about your operating system, with the exact version number and the current updates.

    • Which Avira version is installed on your computer?(exact, and please specify free or pay version)
    • Which OS, your operating system with the exact version number and the current updates.
    • What have you done so far to eliminate the error?
    • Did you carry out a repair installation
    • Did you uninstall and then reinstall the Avira version?
    • What have you done about the settings in your taskbar, which supposedly only occurs sporadically?

Here you can find instructions for a repair installation:
Repair your Avira Security for Windows – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | Avira

    or to the Uninstallation:

Uninstallation of Avira for Windows – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | Avira

and after a reboot, the new installation:

How do I reinstall my activated Avira product? – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | Avira

If anything is still unclear, please let us know, we will be pleased to help.

Kind regards and a nice Sunday

There is no need to reboot. If update hangs, just open the pop up menu (right click in Avira's taskbar icon) and click in "Update Antivirus" once again. A new update will start and complete normally.

    Hello D V,

The customer has reported irregular errors in 2 posts, see the 2nd question:

    https://support.avira.com/hc/de/community/posts/8035861753745-Avira-Icon-sometimes-doesn-t-appear-in-Windows-10-Taskbar-after-a-reboot-or-sometimes-appears-then-disappears-when-you-go-to-click-on-it-

Therefore, it was important for us to provide individual precise details of his installation to help him with his concern.

Sometimes a repair installation or a new installation is helpful.

There were versions where a "click in "Update Antivirus" once again" did not help. My own experience: After that, the scan only went up to 59%, only after the repair installation did the scan work again and also the correct display of the last update.
We had asked for precise information for both enquiries and offered the repair installations (as well for both enquiries) as possible help. Thank you for your understanding.
In addition, it is known that some recommendations do not always react in the same way with different installations.  If the customer is using a premium product (hence our questions), we would recommend the help of the support team and checking his installation for the two posts in case of further inconvenience.

    Kind regards

Thank you for this post. My laptop is Windows 11 and I experienced the same error. Avira auto update hangs at 85% and did not complete. Windows flagged up that my antivirus was out of date. Last update 8 days ago. I tried DV's suggestion : right click in Avira's taskbar icon and click "Update Antivirus" once again. Successful! Thank you!
