Cannot operate a full scan or a quick scan on Avira free Stuck on 1% completed

Went to do a full scan but it got stuck on 1% complete. Switched to quick scan and the same thing. Can do a smart scan though.

Can update my Avira though.  What is going on ?

Second big issue with my antivirus in a few months. First was could not scan at all.

  Unfortunately, you have not given us any information about your operating system (version number) or your Avira license. After updates, there can always be difficulties with the installation. Unfortunately, we do not have access to your customer account from here, the publicly accessible community.

  Sometimes a repair installation will be helpful:

  I did not give enough information unfortunately. I will look into it and give you what I can here. It still is stuck on 1% and nothing i can do about it unless I do as you suggest.

  I know I updated the Avira then attempted  a scan and this occurred.  I use windows 10 and it is the free version but that is not enough I know.

  Since you have the Free version, it is important to know what troubleshooting activities you have already initiated.

  and then - after the reboot - the reinstallation:

  We can't recommend more than that, if we don't have your installation data, unfortunately there is no access to support in the free version. Let's hope that a measure will correct your installation.

  I have good news. I did as you suggested and repaired my Avira. It worked and now all is working as it should. That is all I had to do. What a neat trick. No uninstalling or reinstalling,  just repair.

  Wow!!!
