This issue appears when you install the new Avira product over an existing version of an Avira product. To fix this problem, uninstall the existing version and then Avira Security.
1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
2. In the Run dialog box, type in the following text, and then press Enter:
appwiz.cpl
3. In the list of currently installed programs, click Avira Security, and click Remove or Uninstall.
4. Click Yes to confirm.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation.
6. When the uninstall finishes, exit all programs and restart the computer.
If the Avira uninstall fails with an error message, run a Microsoft tool to remove it.
1. Download and run this Microsoft tool.
2. Select The uninstallation will be executed.
3. Select Avira and/or Launcher.
4. Confirm the uninstallation.
5. Restart your computer once the tool has been executed.
1. Boot your Windows System in Safe Mode.
2. Make sure that your folder options are set as follows.
Click: Start → Control Panel → Folder Options → View → Show Hidden Files and Folders → OK.
3. Delete the following folders if they exist:
- C:\Program Files\Avira
- C:\ProgramData\Avira
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira
Note
There is no action required if these folders do not exist.
4. Restore the default folder view settings.
