Missing Avira icon in Windows 10 System Tray
I've been searching for ways to get the Avira icon back in the Win 10 system tray, after installing on a new laptop.
Have checked: Settings > Taskbar >Notification Area > Avira is ON
Another year old post said to restart "Avira Service Host" - but not in Services. Have restarted all running Avira services shown.
Any suggestions please?

My apologies for not being clearer.
I received a new laptop a few days ago, and installed a new free copy of Avira. It is v1.1.49.18598.
After searching for answers on the Web, I checked Settings > Taskbar > Notification Area to make sure Avira was checked as ON.
What's odd is sometimes I notice that the Avira icon is present in the system tray, and then later (in the same laptop session), it's gone. I've checked Task manager, and see that Avira processes are running even when no icon is there.
I'm sorry, just confused as to where to check any necessary Windows settings, or whatever is required!

Hello Max,
We regret your inconvenience with the installation.
The community is a publicly accessible forum, personal data may not be processed here. In addition, we do not have access to your account here, as it is possible with the Premium products. We cannot see which version (Windows exact details, current updates? ) is installed and from where the software was downloaded.
If everything does not work correctly after the installation, it would be important for us to know from where the software was downloaded and whether you have already done a repair installation (exact description, which one) of the 3 suggestions.
The correct download of the software is important.
Repair your Avira Security for Windows – Official Avira Support | Knowledgebase & Customer Support | AviraAfter these procedures (?), the installation should be carried out correctly and the Avira icon should be displayed.
Have you already done this with the suggestions from yesterday? If anything is still unclear, please let us know, we are happy to help.
Many greetings

Thank you for your response. I've used Avira for a couple of decades, and have happily recommended it to others.
I downloaded the installation files directly from Avira at https://www.avira.com/en/downloads .
Same happened again today: the Avira icon was present in the system tray after a restart, then at some later time, it disappeared.
I will do a Shut Down rather than a Restart, and then try to frequently monitor the Avira Icon in the system tray to see if I can determine if/when it disappears. As I use this laptop for up to 18 hours a day, it may take a while.
I will advise you of the outcome.
Regards

Hi, I have tracked down what happens.
After charging the laptop whilst in use, I then unplugged the power cord. Avira immediately disappeared from the System Tray, a brief msg appeared that "Avira is Starting", and then the Avira window opened as shown below.
Avira looked like it was still running, as there were Avira processes such as "Avira Security (32 bit)" in Task Manager. Have I perhaps accidentally installed a 32 bit version, instead of a 64 bit? However, that doesn't appear to be a download option, just re-checked the website.

I'm having the same problem
Avira antivirus pro
Windows 10 Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 21H1

Having the same problem. system tray icon disappears (AVIRA Prime Windows 10). Reinstalling or repairing does work only for the first system start. Same problem then again - icon disappears although services are running.

Same here on two WIN10 computers Avira Prime

I am now seeing this on three computers made by 3 different manufacturers. The Win10 system tray icon disappears when the computer changes from AC to battery. My three computers are made by three different manufacturers and do not have any unusual programs in use. I did not see this behavior before the last few weeks.
Avira Prime.
Yes, I checked all the usual things including:
not in Hidden System Tray icons
uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times including follow tech support instructions to purge all old files and folders in Safe mode
Fresh download from My Account
Installed a a computer that never had Avira before.
All Windows Updates installedI can get the icon back by restarting the computer or by logging out of windows and logging back in.
Could this be a new Avira bug or Windows update incompatibility?

I can confirm the behaviour (Avira Prime tray icon disappearing when changing from AC to battery) for a Lenovo Notebook with:
Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H1
19043.1110
Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0
Also confirming: it restores when logging out of Windows and then back in again.0 -
Tech service says it is a bug in Avira. They are working on it.

I can confirm this behaviour too. Also, Windows Defender doesn't detect Avira as a 3rd party antivirus now so both Avira and Windows Defender are running at the same time. Windows Defender eats up a huge chunk of system RAM constantly. Antimalware Service Executable eating up 250MB of RAM is always present in the task manager. Please fix :(

@Mark Harper - "Any time now...."
It's only been ~4 months since I first brought up this issue. 😲
Maybe 2022?

I am having the same problem with a desktop computer.

I am glad the uninstall, registry clean worked for Mark and hope (but doubt) it will continue.to work. That did not work for me, nor did installing on a new computer. The latest email I received from Avira says, "our team is still working on it. " I hope (but also doubt) this means more than it is just on a todo list.

I am seriously considering to delete Avira altogether Folks.. Avira Free is no longer reliable.

I have the same problem with the new Windows 11. This is a VERY old problem, which I reported some years ago.

Same problem here. My Win10 laptop (Windows and Avira fully up-to-date) displayed a pop-up saying it moved a file to quarantine. I couldn't read what file because it was partly covered by the Windows task bar which wouldn't go away, but I'm 100% confident that it was spurious (and I really wish Avira wouldn't move files to quarantine without approval, because it's often wrong). I was able to click on "Details", which caused "Luke Filewalker" to pop up for 30 seconds and then go way with no information displayed. So I went to open the Avira GUI to check quarantine manually, and - you guessed it - the Avira icon wasn't in the system tray.
I tried running the Avira app, stopping and starting the Avira service, running the SystrayStartTrigger app in the Avira folder, and finally downloading a new copy and telling it to do a repair install. Lots of reboots. Logged out and back in again. Nothing works. At best I can get the icon to appear briefly in the system tray, and when I hover on it it says "Initializing", but is otherwise unresponsive. And then it goes away again.
There's a log file that says:
AviraSecurityCenterAgent-2021-12-02-13-22-21.log
12/02/2021,13:22:22.276 [ERROR] [TOAV] Can't open user interface: StatusCode: 500
12/02/2021,13:22:22.278 [ERROR] [TOAV] Antivirus UI launch failed
12/02/2021,13:22:22.280 [ERROR] [TOAV] Try operation in administrator mode
12/02/2021,13:22:27.908 [ERROR] [TOAV] Can't enable feature in administration modeNeedless to say, I'm running from an admin account, and running the Avira app in admin mode doesn't help.
And just now when I checked a second Win10 system, the Avira icon disappeared from the system tray while I was looking at it, but at least on this machine I was able to run the GUI even though it threw a kernel exception when I did so.
I don't want to waste time in a struggle with this bug when Avira has already known about it for along time and will eventually fix it some year when they get around to it, I was able to find the .qua file it moved to quarantine today and confirm that it was spurious match on a harmless file with a hex dump. So I guess I'll just have to re-install the app that Avira broke and then wait and hope that the bug gets fixed.
