Starting with version 1.1.111 of the Avira client, the behavior of the Ransomware Protection feature has been adjusted. This change is part of a broader update to how ransomware threats are managed across Avira's protection ecosystem.
What's Changed?
- Ransomware Protection Behavior Updated
The advanced heuristic-based ransomware protection previously available via Endpoint Protection has been discontinued. - Protection Still Active via Core Stack
Ransomware threats are now handled by Avira’s regular protection stack, which continues to provide robust security coverage. - Feature Toggle No Longer Functional
While the Ransomware Protection toggle remains visible in the client UI, it can no longer be activated or deactivated directly by users. - Removed from Upsell Flows
This feature has been removed from promotional elements such as banners, toasters, and comparison tables.
Why Was This Done?
This update reflects a strategic shift in how ransomware protection is delivered:
- The heuristic-based detection was phased out on the Endpoint Protection side.
- Avira now relies on its core protection technologies to detect and block ransomware.
- The UI and upsell flows were streamlined to reflect this backend change.
What Should Users Know?
- You are still protected against ransomware threats through Avira’s core security stack.
- No action is required on your part.
